Jamahl Mosley made the Orlando Magic a contender. Mosley and the playoff-contending Magic — on pace for their best season in 13 years — have agreed on an extension that keeps him under contract in Orlando through the 2027-28 season, the team announced Tuesday. The Red Sox said Williams died Friday at AdventHealth North Pinellas Hospital in Tarpon Springs, Florida, after a brief illness. Williams was voted AL Manager of the Year after leading the Red Sox to their second straight playoff appearance. Williams signed with Boston, played at Class A Iowa and was selected by St. Louis in the 1965 Rule 5 draft. Williams played in 14 major league games, going 3 for 13 (.231) with one RBI. Bobby Cox took over as the Blue Jays' manager in 1982 and when Cox left in 1986 to become Atlanta's general manager, Williams replaced him in Toronto's dugout.

A 76-year-old woman allegedly shot and killed her terminally ill husband at a Daytona Beach, Florida, hospital following a pact police said the couple made several weeks ago. Officers were called to AdventHealth Daytona Beach Saturday for a report of a person shot, the police department said in a news release on Twitter. When police arrived, the woman was barricaded in her husband's 11th-floor room. Young said the 11th floor is for terminally ill patients, and praised officers for getting people out safely. "This was somewhat of a logistical nightmare which is why again I'm very, very proud of my team," he said.
Two middle school students in Florida have died after their boat capsized during an apparent lightning strike while they were out for rowing practice earlier this month. A boat holding athletes with the North Orlando Rowing Club, a competitive rowing club for students in Central Florida, capsized in Lake Fairview, Orlando, on Sept. 15 at 5:50 p.m., the Orlando Fire Department said. It said lightning had struck in the area at the same time, according to preliminary reports. It is still not clear whether the lightning caused the boat to capsize. North Orlando Rowing (NOR) said on September 16, “We learned we lost one of our rowers in this tragic accident.”On Saturday, the rowing club announced the death of the child who was hospitalized.
